Exploring the NFL
نویسنده
چکیده
The National Football league began in 1920 with 12 teams and has grown to 32 teams broken into 2 leagues and 8 divisions. In this time, a total of 14,657 games have been played [1]. Current scheduling requirements lead to a particular distribution of matchups, which when represented as an adjacency matrix should lead to a clustering representative of the league structure. In order to analyze the network and produce the clustering, I used NodeXL, an “opensource template for Microsoft® Excel® 2007 and 2010 that makes it easy to explore network graphs.” [3]

Does Relative Age Affect Career Length in North American Professional Sports?
BACKGROUND Relative age effects (RAEs) typically favour older members within a cohort; however, research suggests that younger players may experience some long-term advantages, such as longer career length. The purposes of this study were to replicate previous findings on RAEs among National Hockey League (NHL) ice hockey players, National Basketball Association (NBA) basketball players and Nat...
متن کاملScanning laser polarimetry in normal subjects and patients with myopia.
AIMS To examine the changes in the retinal nerve fibre layer (NFL) thickness with age and myopia in normal population. METHODS Retinal nerve fibre layer thickness was measured with a scanning laser polarimeter (NFA-I) in 180 normal subjects of varying age (range 7-83 years) and in 110 eyes of 85 patients with myopia of varying degrees (range -1.00 to -15.00D). They were all voluntary Anatolia...
متن کاملDisruption of neurofilament network with aggregation of light neurofilament protein: a common pathway leading to motor neuron degeneration due to Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease-linked mutations in NFL and HSPB1.
Mutations in neurofilament light (NFL) subunit and small heat-shock protein B1 (HSPB1) cause autosomal-dominant axonal Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2E (CMT2E) and type 2F (CMT2F). Previous studies have shown that CMT mutations in NFL and HSPB1 disrupt NF assembly and cause aggregation of NFL protein. In this study, we investigate the role of aggregation of NFL protein in the neurotoxicity o...
متن کاملOn the use of nearest feature line for speaker identification
As a new pattern classification method, Nearest Feature Line (NFL) provides an effective way to tackle the sort of pattern recognition problems where only limited data are available for training. In this paper, we explore the use of NFL for speaker identification in terms of limited data and examine how the NFL performs in such a vexing problem of various mismatches between training and test. I...
متن کاملInjury, pain, and prescription opioid use among former National Football League (NFL) players.
BACKGROUND Athletes with injury-related pain, especially National Football League (NFL) players, are at increased risk for opioid use and misuse which may result in medical, psychiatric and social problems. This is the first study to evaluate the intersection of sports pain and opioid use and misuse among former NFL players. METHODS A telephone survey of 644 retired NFL players from the 2009 ...
متن کاملEffects of Charcot-Marie-Tooth-linked mutations of the neurofilament light subunit on intermediate filament formation.
Neurofilaments (NFs) are the major intermediate filaments (IFs) of mature neurons. They play important roles in the structure and function of axons. Recently, two mutations in the neurofilament light (NFL) subunit have been identified in families affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) neuropathy type 2. We have characterized the effects of these NFL mutations on the formation of IF networks usin...
